Sustainability

Dairyland Cuisine is committed to reducing its environmental impact on our planet and also reducing the carbon footprint of our vehicles and also deliveries from our suppliers. This sustainable approach will help protect the environment and also help with cost savings for the company (Lean and Green). Increased efficiency is what sustainability is all about. We have been working on this project since 2011 and have implemented some changes already, our plan for a more sustainable Dairyland.

Transport / Deliveries
  • Introduction of a new pallet to protect the product and reduce waste/damage. The pallet has individual shelving to protect the product and for us to be able to build up the loads.Started in 2012 and to be completed by 2014.
  • To reduce the number of containers delivering from Donegal. Implemented in June 2012 and reviewed monthly.
  • To consolidate our deliveries by working with partners in different regions or cutting back on delivery days. We consolidate our deliveries in different regions over the last number of months and this has now been completed. The deliveries to our existing customers are constantly under review.
  • To have fridge tracking in all vehicles to monitor that fridges are knocking off when the recommended temperature is achieved.
Distribution Depot
  • All doorways are alarmed and continue to buzz when open.
  • All lighting to be changed to LEDs, this to be done over time as this type of lighting is expensive. This move is expected to reduce the lighting bill by 50%.
  • We only use ……… Gas in our refrigeration units.
Administration
  • All invoices and statements to be sent by email (45% achieved to date).
Electric Vehicle
  • To have our new electric vehicle in Dublin City Centre by March 2013.
Suppliers
  • To work with suppliers that sign up to Origin Green Ireland initiative from Board Bia.

Organic Farming

'An Grianan' in Donegal is Ireland's largest organic farm. We can't compete with nature so we don't add anything to our soils. Our pastures are completely free from artificial pesticides and fertilisers and our cows are free to chow down on wild grass, rather than GM feed.

Our farm was created from reclaimed coastal waters and as a result our soil is rich in essential nutrients and minerals like vitamins A & E and omega 3, not to mention a healthy harvest of natural antioxidants.
